Witley Family of Judo – Summer Super Slam Kids Event – Event Report:
Through the help of Judo club volunteers, an unsuspecting school hall was transformed for a day of friendly competition and character building for 50 children, with their parents, siblings, and friends providing ample encouragement and support from the sidelines.
The event saw children grouped through age, weight, and Judo experience into pools of four to provide a welcoming environment as a first introduction to competitive judo. The focus of the day was participation and trying one’s best, meaning that each child would leave with a medal for their efforts and courage to step onto the competition mat.
The day saw both excellent demonstrations of Judo spirit and Judo technical skill. Amongst the quick footsweeps and powerful shoulder-throws, each child demonstrated their learning and development of sporting strategy, not just over the course of the day, but within the fights themselves – spurred on by the volunteer coaches at the sidelines.
We look forward to hosting another enjoyable event soon alongside our satellite and partner clubs.
